Social Responsibility
Ethically made, always
At BY GEE, how our clothes are made matters just as much as how they look and feel. That’s why we partner only with manufacturers who share our commitment to doing things ethically and sustainably. These aren’t just buzzwords to us — every factory we work with is independently audited and to ensure ethical business practices. Because raising the next generation means respecting the one that comes after.
MANUFACTURING
Our products are masterfully manufactured in China by a handful of partners we are proud to work with. All our factories are BSCI certified. BSCI certification refers to the Business Social Compliance Initiative, now more formally known as Amfori BSCI. BSCI is a global program that helps brands and suppliers improve working conditions in factories. Factories that undergo a BSCI audit are independently assessed by third-party auditors and evaluated against the Amfori BSCI Code of Conduct, which is based on key ILO (International Labour Organization) conventions and UN human rights principles.
The audit covers areas such as:
- Fair remuneration (workers are paid fairly and on time)
- Working hours (no excessive overtime)
- Health and safety (safe workplace and emergency measures)
- No child labour or forced labour
- Freedom of association (right to join trade unions)
- Environmental protection
- Ethical business behaviour
BSCI is not a certification in the traditional sense (like ISO or Fairtrade), but rather a framework and audit system that helps companies ensure ethical and socially responsible practices in their supply chains.
All our fabrics have been OEKO-TEX® certified to ensure they are safe for our little ones skin. OEKO-TEX® certification is a textile safety certification that verifies that fabrics, garments, and other textile products are free from harmful chemicals and safe for human use.
SUSTAINABILITY
At BY GEE we are committed to improving the environmental outlook of the world we are raising our children in. Sustainability is at the core of each business decision we make.
By nature, producing clothing has an environmental impact and the best thing all of us can do for sustainability is reduce the number of garments we are buying, but kids keep growing, so our solution is to buy less and buy better. Your BY GEE clothes, if looked after, will stand up to the wash and wear we expect from busy kids and come out the other side ready to be passed down to their siblings, cousins and your best friend's baby.
We are committed to following the Australian Fashion Council’s ‘Roadmap to Circularity’ to create a sustainable future for the Australian clothing industry. Our aim is to help reduce consumption by making garments that are durable and more easily recyclable at their end of life. We have chosen to make almost all of our products from 100% natural fibres as these styles are far easier to recycle than fabric blends. As a small business, we also produce our products in small batches with the goal to sustainably sell through our stock without excess.
Sustainability is at the core of all of our business decisions, we choose not to have our products individually wrapped in plastic when they leave our factories and instead choose to wrap them in FSC certified recycled tissue paper before we send them out to you. Our mailers are made from 100% recycled Ocean Bound Plastic pollution, this packaging is designed to be recycled with soft plastics, however in Australia, the REDcycle scheme is currently not operational. Industry is working hard to create new recycling solutions, but in the meantime, Australian customers are advised to dispose of this packaging in the landfill bin. While this is far from ideal, rest assured that a managed landfill is a far better place for this packaging than where it was before it was recycled into POLLLAST!C - abandoned and polluting the natural environment.
RE-USE & RE-SELL
We have created the ‘BY GEE: Buy, Sell, Swap’ group to encourage reuse within our community of our clothes. Join here.
